It all feels different

Leave it to the thoughts of a child to get the conversation rolling.

I have two teenagers, a 16-year-old son and a 13-year-old daughter. Today’s inauguration has been a topic of conversation in our house for the past few weeks as we discuss what the new administration means, the role President Obama’s election plays in history and how things will change.

We were running through our final moments at home this morning, frantic as mornings always are, when my daughter stopped and looked at me.

“I just feel different today,” she said, as I’m trying to get her and all our bags out the door.

“Why?”

“Because it feels like everyone matters, and it’s good.”

Indeed.

  1. That’s exactly how I felt today 🙂

  2. It’s so great how excited young people (and the rest of us!) are about the future.

  3. I really hope that all of this hope doesn’t disappear when he, inevitably, disappoints.
