The Pope and Facebook

In a message during a world day of communications on Friday, Pope Benedict cautioned against “obsessive” use of Facebook, MySpace and other social networking sites, saying they can lead to isolation and marginalization.

The Pope calls such technological advances “a gift” (read it here:

but said those who rely on digital communication over interpersonal communication may be further isolated.

What are your thoughts? How do you use social networking sites?

  1. For me it has been the opposite. On Facebook I have been in touch with friends I haven’t heard from in years. Any type of connection is good. Reconnecting will lead to getting together in person.
