Flood doesn’t deter Good Friday tradition

From Jodi Jonasson, Trinity Lutheran Church and School:

For 80 years Cedar Rapids Lutherans in the Missouri Synod tradition held their community Good Friday observance in the auditorium in the basement of the Veterans building on May’s Island.

When the flood took over that building, it seemingly left the service without a location.

Not so.

Almost 600 people attended the community Good Friday service earlier this month, moved this year to Trinity Lutheran School in Cedar Rapids. Participating pastors included the Revs. Jerry Doellinger, Concorida Lutheran; Daniel Krueger, Zion Lutheran; Greg Williamson, St. Paul Lutheran; and Jonathan Offt, Trinity Lutheran.

The noon service will be held at Trinity Lutheran School next year, as well, if the Veteran’s Building is not ready.
