Catholic Democrats question the pope

An update from an earlier post:

A group of 50 Catholic members of the U.S. House of Representatives last week sought clarification from Pope Benedict as to why he canceled the excommunication of a bishop who has said publicly the Holocaust didn’t happen.

The Representatives, all Democrats, questioned why the pope hasn’t publicly repudiated the bishop’s comments.

The letter was issued on Friday, just three days after International Holocaust Memorial Day on Jan. 27, a day set aside by the United Nations General Assembly to commemorate and honor the victims of the Nazi era. The date is significant in that it marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.
